We see life as a spiritual journey where the climax is not found in the destination, but in the voyage itself. A road trip of sorts, this adventure reads more like a story where each of us take our seats and settle in for the ride. We've all got our own tale, but at the same time we've come to realize that we're also a part of something bigger - an overarching story where we are the real life characters. For us, this leg of the trip is being written in the city of Sarnia where as individuals in collective community, we look tell the Grand Narrative of Jesus, day by day and moment by moment, simply by the way we live our lives. Jesus himself put it this way: "Love God, love others." This is our story, and we're stickin' to it. "If there is no point in the story as a whole, there is no point in my own action. If the story is meaningless, any action of mine is meaningless...so the answer to the question 'Who am I?' can only be given if we ask 'What is my story?' and that can only be answered if there is an answer to the further question, 'What is the whole story of which my story is a part?'" (Leslie Newbigin) Our Values Rooted: That God’s story (the alternative story to the empire that we find ourselves in) takes root in us and we in turn root wherever we find ourselves. Tabled: That we are assured a place at God’s table and in turn our hope is to be referred to as Jesus was, ‘drinking and eating, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners’. Risked: That by embracing a holy insecurity, betting it all on God, fear is neutralized and in turn we become our true selves. |
